The updated compulab uboot has fixed sd card problem, but does the BOM have trouble loading stage 1/uboot off these cards, the reason I ask is I'm not picking up uboot off this type of card.

I did a try:

I wrote the *.imx file, using a mac:
sudo dd if=u-boot-imx_usb_hdmi.imx bs=1k seek=1 of=/dev/disk3 && sync
315+0 records in
315+0 records out
322560 bytes transferred in 0.997841 secs (323258 bytes/sec)

Then I installed the mmc card into the Utilite and did a reboot.

Unfortunately it seems, that the mmc-card is not recognized.

Did I do something wrong? Bug in 2009.08-uboot?

But you can't be using uboot to load another uboot

Looks like the SD card was not detected when the i.mx6 restarted, hence it booted from the internal SPI flash. Can you ensure the SD card was properly inserted? It was not recognised by the Utilite uboot.

MMC was correctly installed and readable.

You can see, that later in the uboot I did a successful "mmc part"....

Maybe pepedog is right, that the mmc-card is not checked during 1/uboot stage.

After more experiments on a pro, arch on ssd, uboot not updated.
Your image on 2Gb card with Ubuntu.
SPI uboot is used, boots into Ubuntu (yuck)
Going to update uboot on SPI, as I said in previous post, can't see that would help

I just verified it again on my Utilite Pro ("/dev/sdc" is my SD card):

Code:
dd if=u-boot-imx_usb_hdmi.imx bs=1k seek=1 of=/dev/sdc && sync
315+0 records in
315+0 records out
322560 bytes (323 kB) copied, 0.0632213 s, 5.1 MB/s

Placed SD card in slot and booted :

Code:
U-Boot 2013.10-00010-g51b36f6-dirty (Nov 27 2013 - 05:29:09)

CPU:   Freescale i.MX6Q rev1.2 at 792 MHz

MMC:   FSL_SDHC: 0, FSL_SDHC: 1, FSL_SDHC: 2

The Utilite (i.mx6) should detect the SD card because it should be the first boot device configured and if it finds a uboot image it is loaded. Are you testing on a Utilite Pro? Also could you try another SD card or try the ubuntu image (which has the same uboot on it).

Yes, I tried it with a PRO.
Also with another MMC-card it doesn´t work.

Maybe something is wrong with my OS-X.
I will wait until the new Ubuntu will be available and start a new try again.

I am having a similar story, but using a U2 to write. One of the cards worked prior to compulab update. Tried with partitions made, and first 16Mb blanked out, also power cycling and warm.
Also done this sort of thing for the U2.
Will try your image.
