Post Wireless card fails after a few days
I'm trying to set up a Utilite Standard as a wireless access point. It generally works fine, except the wireless card seems to become disabled after roughly 2 days with the dmesg output shown below. This happens consistently and the only way to recover is to reboot.

My problem looks similar to one reported by a DreamPlug user, which doesn't seem to have been resolved. Has anyone here experienced a similar issue?

Thanks,
Tom

Post Re: Wireless card fails after a few days
Hi,

Could you please provide a little bit more information about your environment:
1) Kernel release
2) SD8787 firmware version
3) Linux release
4) dmesg output of the wifi failure from the system boot.

Regards,
Valentin.

Post Re: Wireless card fails after a few days
Hi Valentin,

I'm using Arch Linux with a custom 3.10.17 kernel and DTB based on Freescale's i.MX tree (rel_imx_3.10.17_1.0.0_ga). The SD8787 firmware version is 14.66.35.p52. I don't have the full dmesg output saved, unfortunately, but will post it when the failure recurs.

Thanks,
Tom

So it is the same firmware. It happened over night. I rebooted before that and then checked whether the three mobiles were connected to the Wifi (they were).

If I remember correctly I had similar issues previously with the 3.0.35 kernel while using a USB stick with ath9k_htc module, but that may be related to the stick only.

Post Re: Wireless card fails after a few days
I've updated recently to 3.10 from devel (9c89e6a): https://github.com/utilite-computer/linux-kernel
and with the latest uboot (MD5:bf0d453aeb61a680e15e263eb3ff31bb)

this same thing started happening in few hours after every boot, it goes like this:
1. mlan0 and uap0 initialized correctly:
Code:
[    4.475051] mwifiex_sdio mmc0:0001:1: FW already running! Skip FW dnld
[    4.678913] mwifiex_sdio mmc0:0001:1: WLAN FW is active

[    5.138127] mwifiex_sdio mmc0:0001:1: driver_version = mwifiex 1.0 (14.66.35.p52)

2. Ā«scheduling while atomicĀ» bug happens:
Code:

5. neither mlan0 nor uap0 exist anymore
6. tried reloading modules: mwifiex_sdio, mwifiex, cfg80211, rfkill; wireless interfaces do not show up again, only reboot helps

any workaround?

Post Re: Wireless card fails after a few days
small correction, I had troubles with devel from that source, so I also applied this patch (why is not it included in Utilite tree? Valentin is author):
https://github.com/offensive-security/k ... 27b0.patch

Post Re: Wireless card fails after a few days
tried backporting cfg80211, mwifiex and mwifiex_sdio from backports-4.3-1 [ https://backports.wiki.kernel.org/ ]

AP worked for few hours with the following events logged periodically:
Code:
Dec 13 18:50:19 ygrex kernel: CPU: 3 PID: 178 Comm: ksdioirqd/mmc0 Tainted: G           O 3.10.17-ygrex-00011-g0245c00 #13

then the host got frozen eventually and rebooted (presumably by watchdog)

so backporting is not of much help here, any more workarounds anybody tried?
