Post Sporadically boot problems
Hello,

I am using a utilite standard model. U-Boot is up-to-date and the ubuntu on sd card too. Most of the time the utilite run create but sometime it hang in u-boot unable to load the kernel. A restart (Power off/on or type reset via serial interface) of the utilite is necessary and then it boot mostly.

I tried two different sd cards (8 and 16 gb) and the latest ubuntu image from your side and an arch image. Always with the same problem.

Serial output (Arch image 8 Gb sd card)

Hi luxso,

Do the SD cards work well in other devices? What are the models of the SD cards?

Hi,
Silicon Power is the manufacturer of the 8 gb class 4 sd card. This one was included in the utilite package. The 16 gb is, if truth be told, a noname product but class 4 too. Otherwise the sd card work fine. Are there known difficulties with some cards?

I never worked with u-boot before, but i tested some things and it seems to me that the u-boot "load" function-call generate the error. Sometimes it fails to load the boot.scr script and sometimes utilite recognize that boot.scr is unavailable but fail to load the kernel image in the next step.... thats a little bit strange.(with default uboot settings)

Meanwhile i modified the default env in u-boot. The bootchain will break and force a reset if it fail to load the kernel from mmc. It is not an elegant solution, but for the moment it is better then reboot it in linux via ssh and walk 20 seconds later to the utilite and reset it manual again...

But it would still be nice to find source of the problem...

I've seen something similar only once, and the card was problematic in Linux and on my desktop as well. What you're describing might be an issue of signal integrity, which would explain the sporadic failures, and either party (Utilite or the mmc card) can be at fault. So far we haven't seen a pattern of certain cards not working though.
