Post New uBoot
Taking advantage that I can recover with ubuntu image the ssd, I installed archlinuxarm onto the ssd, and made (so I thought) a compatable boot.scr
That didn't work so reused ubuntu one, that never worked.
In fact unless the ubuntu system is there, my working sd install doesn't boot.
Looked at the new firmware docs, is the boot order controlled by the script on the ssd?
This new (boot) script is so complicated, how would Mike's recipe at http://trimslice.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=158 be rewrote to boot from ssd?
Code:
setenv bootargs mem=384M@0M mem=512M@512M nvmem=128M@384M vmalloc=248M video=tegrafb console=ttyS0,115200n8 rw root=/dev/sda1 nohdparm rootwait
ext2load usb 0:1 4080000 /boot/uImage
bootm 4080000

Please post the boot.scr that you've created and the U-Boot console output when trying to boot with the new boot.src.

Thanks for reply, Igorv.
First, I don't have a null modem, but judging by your reply I investigated further and found my mmc recipe for boot.scr was different from Mike's post, here is a working recipe that boots fine from the ssd
Code:
setenv bootargs 'root=/dev/sda1 rw rootwait console=tty1 console=ttyS0,115200n8 mem=384M@0M mem=512M@512M nvmem=128M@384M vmalloc=248M nohdparm noinitrd init=/sbin/init rootwait loglevel=8 video=tegrafb'
ext2load usb 0:1 4080000 /boot/uImage
bootm 4080000

To create the boot.scr I did this
Code:
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T script -C none -a 0 -e 0 -n "Trim Slice SSD Boot" -d boot.txt boot.scr

and copied to / and /boot of my ssd install.
Going to try fbcon now

Still no null mode here.
Considering external usb storage is second choice, there is no example in the guide http://trimslice.com/wiki/index.php/Trim-Slice_Linux_Kernel
Could this be added please, I have tried many permutations and failed, thanks.

Ordered a null modem cable, less than 2 uk pounds.
Changed file system on usb hard drive to ext2 (was ext3)
Code:
setenv bootargs 'root=/dev/sdb1 .............etc
ext2load usb 1:1 4080000 /boot/uImage
bootm 4080000

Why the ssd can be ext3 and boot, I don't know.
Maybe I should try a small first partition ext2 with boot.scr and uImage, and rest of drive (rootfs) as ext4.

My last word on this, a what if moment occured about running kernel 3.1-rc2
All booting fine, but when I first booted it picked kernel off ssd, so here is my text file on which my boot.scr totally breaks me away from the ssd
Code:
usb start 0
setenv bootargs 'root=/dev/sdb1 rw rootwait console=tty1 console=ttyS0,115200n8 mem=384M@0M mem=512M@512M nvmem=128M@384M vmalloc=248M nohdparm noinitrd init=/sbin/init rootwait loglevel=8 video=tegrafb'
ext2load usb 0:1 4080000 /boot/uImage
bootm 4080000
